BCCI Announces Record INR 131 Crore Reward for India’s T20 World Cup 2026 Triumph
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a record-breaking reward for the national team following their historic triumph at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The BCCI confirmed that Team India will receive a massive bonus of INR 131 crore, the highest financial reward the board has ever awarded to a national squad.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, March 10, just one day after India lifted the T20 World Cup trophy in Ahmedabad. The reward reflects the scale of India’s achievement and recognises the collective contribution of players, coaches, and support staff behind the memorable victory.
BCCI Reward Sets New Financial Record
The BCCI reward of INR 131 crore surpasses the previous record of INR 125 crore that the board distributed to the Indian team after their T20 World Cup 2024 victory in Barbados. The new figure highlights how highly the board values India’s remarkable title defence in the 2026 tournament.
Importantly, the reward will not be limited only to the players. The announced amount covers the entire 15-member squad, the coaching staff led by head coach Gautam Gambhir, the support personnel working behind the scenes, and the national selection committee.
By including every group involved in the campaign, the BCCI has emphasised that India’s success in the tournament was the result of a complete team effort rather than the work of individuals alone.
The announcement also reflects the board’s long-standing tradition of celebrating major international achievements with significant financial recognition.
Historic Achievements Behind the Reward
India’s dominant performance throughout the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign fully justified the historic BCCI reward.
In the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India defeated New Zealand by a massive margin of 96 runs. Batting first, the Indian team produced one of the most explosive batting displays in tournament history, scoring 255 for five in their 20 overs.
New Zealand’s chase never truly gained momentum, and they were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. The comprehensive victory secured India’s third T20 World Cup title.
The tournament triumph also delivered several historic milestones. India became the first team ever to successfully defend the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. They also became the first host nation to win the tournament on home soil and the first country in history to lift the trophy three times.
Before India’s latest victory, both West Indies and England shared the record with two T20 World Cup titles each.
These historic accomplishments made the BCCI reward not only a celebration of a tournament win but also recognition of a landmark moment in international cricket.
ICC Prize Money Adds to Team’s Earnings
In addition to the BCCI reward, India also collected significant prize money from the International Cricket Council for winning the tournament.
The ICC awarded the champions a prize of USD 2.34 million, which is roughly equivalent to INR 21.5 crore. When combined with performance bonuses earned during the group stage and Super Eight phase, the total financial return from the tournament becomes even greater.
However, the BCCI’s reward alone is larger than the entire ICC tournament prize pool, which stood at approximately INR 101 crore for the 2026 edition.
This stark difference highlights the scale of the Indian board’s financial strength and its willingness to reward success on the global stage.
Star Performances Led India to the Title
Several outstanding individual performances played a major role in India’s victorious campaign and ultimately contributed to the record-breaking reward.
Sanju Samson emerged as the tournament’s standout player and was named Player of the Tournament after scoring 321 runs in just five innings. His performances included a stunning 89 off 46 balls in the final, which helped India post their record-breaking total.
Jasprit Bumrah delivered one of the defining spells of the tournament during the final, taking four wickets for just 15 runs to dismantle New Zealand’s batting lineup.
The batting unit also benefited from key contributions by Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, both of whom played important roles in building India’s commanding total in the title match.
Under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir, India’s squad displayed remarkable consistency throughout the competition. The team lost just one match in the entire tournament, a group-stage defeat to South Africa, before responding with six consecutive victories to secure the championship.
Significance of the Reward for Indian Cricket
Beyond the financial value, the BCCI reward carries symbolic importance for Indian cricket. It reinforces the board’s commitment to recognising excellence and celebrating achievements on the biggest stages of international sport.
The reward also reflects a remarkable period of sustained success for the national team. Over the past two years, India have captured several major international trophies, including the T20 World Cup 2024, the Champions Trophy 2025, the Asia Cup 2025, and now the T20 World Cup 2026.
This sequence of victories represents one of the most successful eras in the history of Indian cricket. The record-breaking BCCI reward therefore serves as a fitting tribute to a team that has consistently delivered results at the highest level and strengthened India’s position as one of the dominant forces in world cricket.
