Dewald Brevis Unperturbed as Pretoria Capitals Face Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20 Final
Pretoria Capitals stand just one step away from lifting their maiden SA20 title, but a formidable challenge awaits them in the final against the tournament’s most successful side, Sunrisers Eastern Cape. While the occasion carries immense weight, young batting sensation Dewald Brevis appears unfazed, choosing belief and calm over pressure.

Brevis has been one of the standout performers of the season, producing back-to-back match-winning knocks of 53 and an unbeaten 75 to power the Capitals directly into the final. Speaking to NDTV ahead of the title clash, the 21-year-old stressed the importance of treating the final as a fresh contest, despite Pretoria’s recent Qualifier win over the same opponents.

“I think it’s very exciting,” Brevis said. “For us, it’s a new game. It is the final, but like the coach said, it’s a new day. We just need to focus on the small things we can control.”

Often dubbed “Baby AB” for his fearless and innovative stroke play, Brevis adopted a philosophical outlook on the high-pressure environment of a final at Newlands. “It’s almost like whatever happens will happen. It’s already in the script. We can just give it our best and enjoy it,” he added.

Standing alongside Brevis is legendary former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who is enjoying his debut season as head coach of the Pretoria Capitals. Ganguly has played a pivotal role in turning the team around after a fifth-place finish last year, instilling belief and clarity ahead of big moments.

Drawing from his vast experience in finals, including the 2003 World Cup, Ganguly echoed the idea of approaching the match with a clear mindset and focusing on execution rather than history.

The Capitals’ game plan will revolve around their explosive batting unit, with Brevis, Sherfane Rutherford, and Andre Russell expected to play key roles as they chase a historic first SA20 crown.
