Gill Admits GT's Shocking Fielding Gifted RCB the Match
Gill Does Not Hide From Hard Questions After Humbling Defeat

Shubman Gill did not look for excuses after Gujarat Titans were crushed by 92 runs in the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1. The GT captain spoke plainly to the media after the match, admitting that the team's fielding performance was nowhere near the standard required in a playoff match. Dropped catches during the crucial middle overs when RCB were building momentum cost GT dearly and allowed Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya to take the game completely away from them. Gill acknowledged the fielding issues had been discussed in team meetings but that they surfaced again at the worst possible time.

Krunal Pandya's Two Reprieves Changed the Entire Match

The most damaging fielding failures for GT came when Krunal Pandya was dropped twice in quick succession during the middle overs. Those drops allowed Pandya to continue his partnership with Patidar and add crucial runs at a stage when GT had a real chance of pulling things back. Each dropped chance not only gave the batsman a new life but also handed Patidar more strike and more balls to destroy the bowling attack. By the time GT held their catches, the total was already at a level that made any realistic chase impossible.

Gill Promises a Reset Ahead of Qualifier 2

Despite the heavy defeat, Gill was quick to point out that GT's IPL 2026 journey is not over. They now face the winner of tonight's RR vs SRH Eliminator in the Qualifier 2 on May 29 in New Chandigarh. Gill stressed the team would use the next few days to reset completely, address the fielding problems directly in training and return with the intensity that made them a top-two finisher in the league stage. Their batting lineup, which includes Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan, remains dangerous on its day.

The Bowlers Are Still Capable of Winning Matches

For all the criticism of the batting collapse, GT's bowling attack with Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada can defend any total or take wickets at crucial moments. If the batting fires in Qualifier 2, GT remain a serious threat.
