IPL 2026 Crucial Setback for Chinnaswamy
IPL 2026 faces fresh uncertainty as matches at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium are yet to receive unconditional clearance. Although the Karnataka government has granted permission in principle, IPL 2026 fixtures at the iconic venue remain subject to infrastructure and safety upgrades currently underway.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association has confirmed that extensive redevelopment work is progressing at the stadium. Several spectator gates and entry points are being dismantled and widened, alongside critical safety enhancements recommended by expert authorities. These measures are central to ensuring IPL 2026 can be conducted without operational concerns.

RCB Seeks Unconditional Approval

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are reportedly seeking unconditional approval instead of conditional clearance for hosting IPL 2026 matches. Following the tragic events of June 4, 2025, the franchise is prioritizing structural, electrical and public safety assurances before committing to the venue for IPL 2026.

Alternative Venues Under Review

As a contingency for IPL 2026, RCB officials have conducted a recce in Raipur and are evaluating the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium as a backup option. The delay in finalizing IPL 2026 venues is also linked to the pending announcement of Assembly election dates in multiple states, which traditionally influences scheduling decisions.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have sought formal indemnity from the Rajasthan government to host matches in Jaipur, reflecting wider caution across franchises ahead of IPL 2026.
