IPL 2026 Orange Cap Abhishek Leads as Bhuvneshwar Holds Purple

Abhishek Sharma Reclaims the Orange Cap

Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma is the Orange Cap holder in IPL 2026 with 440 runs from ten matches at a strike rate of 206. He moved back to the top of the standings on Sunday, edging ahead of Delhi Capitals anchor KL Rahul, who has 433 runs from nine outings. What makes Abhishek's position particularly impressive is that his tally includes scores against some of the tournament's most potent bowling attacks, and his ability to score at above 200 consistently in the powerplay has been a defining feature of SRH's batting identity this season. Despite SRH's defeat to KKR in Match 45, his individual numbers continue to set the standard for every other batter in the competition.

The Tight Battle Behind the Leader

The Orange Cap race does not lack depth. Heinrich Klaasen of SRH is third with 414 runs, while Rajasthan Royals teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has 404 runs and remains the most explosive young talent of the tournament. Virat Kohli of RCB sits on 379 and is always capable of a big innings that could shake the standings. Shubman Gill has 373 runs for Gujarat Titans, and KL Rahul's consistency means a single big score could hand him back the cap at any stage. There are still several league games remaining, and with flat pitches the norm across most venues, a double-hundred run chase producing two individual fifties in one afternoon is an entirely realistic scenario.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kamboj Locked at the Top of the Purple Cap

On the bowling front, RCB's Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the Purple Cap standings with 17 wickets from nine matches at an economy rate of 7.54. Anshul Kamboj of CSK has the identical wicket count but sits second due to a slightly higher economy rate of 8.49. When CSK take on Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, Kamboj will have a live opportunity to overtake Bhuvneshwar and claim the cap outright. Jofra Archer and Eshan Malinga are both on 15 wickets in fourth and fifth position respectively, while Kagiso Rabada's 16 wickets from ten games place him in third.

Kamboj in particular has been a revelation. His ability to execute yorkers under pressure at the death has made him CSK's most impactful bowling weapon in recent games, and a strong performance against DC could well hand him the Purple Cap before the week is out.
