Several captains have openly discussed the impact of the toss. Rishabh Pant noted after one loss for Lucknow Super Giants that the toss can decide a significant portion of the match before play even begins. Shubman Gill has echoed similar concerns, pointing to how conditions at certain grounds heavily influence decisions.

Possible Changes Ahead

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has been made aware of these concerns. Early discussions are underway about whether pitch preparation guidelines need adjustment to ensure more balanced conditions across both innings. Some experts have also suggested exploring drop-in pitches, similar to those used in Australia, to create greater consistency.

A Factor That Cannot Be Ignored

Until meaningful changes are introduced, the toss will continue to play a major role in IPL 2026. Captains who make the right call are gaining a clear advantage, something that tournament organizers will need to address carefully before the next season.
