Ireland Announce Squad For T20 World Cup 2026, Paul Stirling To Lead
Ireland T20 has officially announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 in Sri Lanka and India. The team will be captained by their highest run-scorer, Paul Stirling, with Lorcan Tucker as vice-captain.

Ireland is placed in Group B alongside Sri Lanka, Australia, Oman, and Zimbabwe, opening their campaign against Sri Lanka in Colombo on February 8.

Experienced Core and New Additions

12 of the 15 players featured in Ireland T20's previous T20 World Cup edition, ensuring continuity and experience. New additions include Tim Tector, Ben Calitz, and Matthew Humphreys, strengthening the squad’s depth ahead of the tournament. This blend of experienced campaigners and fresh talent is expected to enhance Ireland T20’s competitive edge.

Historical Performance and Expectations

Ireland T20 will mark its ninth appearance at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Their best performances came in 2009 and 2022, advancing to the second round and securing wins against former champions West Indies and England. These past achievements set a benchmark for Ireland T20 as they aim to surpass previous records in the upcoming tournament.

Team Management and Preparation

National selector Andrew White expressed confidence in Ireland T20's readiness, emphasizing the squad's preparation and strategy. "We are very much looking forward to this T20 World Cup. After a memorable 2022 tournament, we aim to improve on our 2024 performance," he said. Ireland T20 has scheduled warm-up matches against Italy and the UAE to fine-tune their skills ahead of the main event.
