Jason Gillespie, Ex Pak Coach, Reveals How PCB Humiliation Led To His Resignation
2 Jan 2026, 8:25 pm

Australia great Jason Gillespie, who served as Pakistan’s Test head coach in 2024, has opened up about the behind-the-scenes issues that led to his resignation from the role. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been under scrutiny for constant changes in its backroom staff, and Gillespie’s exit added to that instability.
During a Q&A session on X (formerly Twitter), Gillespie responded to a fan’s question about his decision to leave Pakistan cricket. He revealed that the PCB had sacked the senior assistant coach without informing him, despite his position as head coach, calling the situation completely unacceptable.
Gillespie stated that this incident was one of several issues that left him feeling humiliated. He also previously criticised PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi for failing to attend a “Connection Camp” in person. While Gillespie flew in from Australia and white-ball coach Gary Kirsten travelled from South Africa, Naqvi joined the meeting virtually despite being based in Lahore.
According to Gillespie, both he and Kirsten found it unusual that the PCB chairman could not make a short trip to attend the camp in person, raising concerns about commitment and leadership.
Since Gillespie’s departure, instability within Pakistan cricket has continued. A recent PTI report suggested that Azhar Mahmood was also let go as Test coach despite having three months remaining on his contract.
