John Blain Major Comeback to Hall of Fame
John Blain is back in the Cricket Scotland Hall of Fame which is a remarkable story in the history of Scottish cricket. The reentry of the former seamer is almost four years after he was suspended in July 2022 due to racism claims, which came at a time of crisis of the governing body.

John Blain Reinstated following Allegations Cleared.

John Blain, an international player who won 118 of 13 year international career including 1999 World Cup, was the first inductee into the Hall of Fame in May 2019. Nevertheless, John Blain was put on suspension temporarily after he was accused of referring to a racist slur by his former team-mates, Majid Haq and Qasim Sheikh in a 2007 tour of Kenya.

A case of John Blain was revealed during an independent review which revealed Cricket Scotland to be institutionally racist, leading to a series of far-reaching reforms and the resignation of board members. In March 2023, John Blain was also one of six ex-players who were convicted in another ECB process following the revelations of Azeem Rafiq concerning racism in English county cricket.

Formal Endorsement and Hall of Fame Release.

In January 2024, Cricket Scotland informed John Blain that the charges against him were found unjustified, and no case to answer. This was later referred to a public inquiry by John Blain who claimed that the results had compromised the disciplinary process at ECB.

The Cricket Scotland Board made a unanimous vote and John Blain was thankful to all those who stood by him during what he referred to as a very difficult time. John Blain said that representing Scotland was the highest honour of his life and that his expulsion out of the Hall of Fame had been a personal setback to a large extent.

John Blain will undergo equality, diversity and inclusion training that is prescribed by the board as part of the reinstatement conditions. The re-election of John Blain into the Hall of Fame brings to an end a controversial chapter, and outlines the current work to make Scottish cricket more accountable and governable.
