KL Rahul Smashes Historic 152 in T20 Masterclass

KL Rahul Rewrites the Record Books

In an extraordinary innings that will be talked about long after IPL 2026 concludes, KL Rahul produced a batting performance of historic proportions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 25. His unbeaten 152 off 67 balls for Delhi Capitals against Punjab Kings now stands as the highest T20 score by any Indian batter, surpassing records that had stood for years and placing him third on the all-time IPL individual scores list behind only Chris Gayle (175 not out) and Brendon McCullum (158 not out).

An Innings Built on Power and Precision

Rahul batted through all 20 overs as Delhi Capitals posted a mammoth 264 for 2. He struck 16 fours and nine sixes in a knock that combined his classical technique with a new level of explosive intent. He reached his half-century in 26 balls before accelerating devastatingly, going from 100 to 150 in just 19 deliveries. His fastest-ever IPL century arrived in 47 balls, shaving nine deliveries off his previous best.

At the non-striker's end, Nitish Rana played one of the great supporting roles in IPL history, smashing 91 off 44 balls. The two right-handers shared a 220-run partnership for the second wicket, the second-highest stand for any wicket in IPL history and the highest between two Indian batters. Rana hit 28 runs in a single over off Xavier Bartlett, threatening a century of his own before being caught at mid-off.

A Changed Rahul

After the match, Rahul spoke candidly about the evolution of his T20 game. He said he had studied the modern demands of the format closely and realised that six-hitting could not wait. He had specifically worked on his power game in the weeks before the tournament, and the results against Punjab Kings were the clearest expression yet of that process.

His 227 strike rate across the full innings represented a departure from the image of Rahul as a measured, risk-averse accumulator. He played proper cricket shots throughout but gave himself the freedom to capitalise on anything in his arc from the very first ball.

Not Enough to Prevent Defeat

Despite Rahul's heroics and Delhi's record 264 for 2, Punjab Kings chased the target down in 18.5 overs to win by six wickets. The innings loss did not diminish what Rahul achieved, and he was awarded Player of the Match in recognition of one of the great individual batting displays in T20 cricket history.
