The Bangladesh ICC Promise became the central outcome of prolonged negotiations involving the ICC, Pakistan Cricket Board and Bangladesh Cricket Board after Bangladesh’s absence from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Bangladesh ICC Promise ensured that Bangladesh would not face long-term consequences despite being replaced in the tournament.

In its official release, the ICC reaffirmed Bangladesh’s status as a valued Full Member and described the Bangladesh ICC Promise as part of a forward-looking alignment. The ICC stated that Bangladesh’s non-participation would not impact its standing or future opportunities within global cricket governance.

A key element of the Bangladesh ICC Promise was confirmation that no financial, sporting or administrative penalties would be imposed on the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The ICC further acknowledged that Bangladesh retains the right to approach the Dispute Resolution Committee under existing regulations, reinforcing institutional fairness.

As part of the Bangladesh ICC Promise, the ICC agreed that Bangladesh will host an ICC event between 2028 and 2031, subject to standard operational approvals. This decision reflects confidence in Bangladesh’s capability as a host nation and aims to support cricket development in the region.

The Bangladesh ICC Promise played a decisive role in resolving Pakistan’s boycott threat against the India match. Following assurances to Bangladesh, Pakistan agreed to honour its fixture, allowing the tournament schedule to stabilise and preserving unity within the international cricket fraternity.
