25 Feb 2026, 4:30 pm

Beth
Mooney produced a major, match-winning knock of 76 off 79 balls as Australia
Women beat India Women by six wickets in the first ODI of their multi-format
series at Allan Border Field, Brisbane on February 24. The Beth Mooney
performance also carried historic significance, with the left-hander becoming
only the 7th Australian to reach 3,000 ODI runs and the 4th to pass 7,000
international runs.
India Women Fall Short at The Gabba in 1st ODI
India were bowled out for 214 in 48.3 overs after
captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bat. Smriti Mandhana top-scored
with 58 off 68 balls, while Harmanpreet herself contributed 53 off 84. Kashvee
Gautam chipped in with a career-best 43 off 44 balls. However, Australia's
bowling attack was relentless, led by Ashleigh Gardner's 3 for 33 and Megan
Schutt's 2 for 42. Pratika Rawal's return from injury was cut short by a duck
off the second ball of the match.
Beth Mooney's Brilliant Chase in Brisbane
Alyssa Healy, playing in her farewell series,
anchored Australia's reply with a composed 50 off 70 balls before Beth Mooney
took over. Mooney's Beth Mooney innings of 76 was defined by clean hitting and
precise placement, including five boundaries and two sixes. An 85-run
partnership between Beth Mooney and Annabel Sutherland, who finished unbeaten
on 48 off 44 balls, ended the contest with 70 balls to spare.
Harmanpreet Injury Concern for India Women
A key concern for India from this first ODI was
captain Harmanpreet Kaur sustaining a left knee injury while batting, forcing
her off the field during Australia's chase. Smriti Mandhana led the side in her
absence. India will need Harmanpreet fit for the second ODI at Bellerive Oval,
Hobart on February 27.
Multi-Format Series Levelled at 4-4
The Beth Mooney-inspired Australia win draws the
multi-format series level at 4-4 overall, following India's 2-1 victory in the
T20I leg earlier this month. The ODI series now becomes the pivotal
battleground, with India seeking a historic maiden ODI series win against
Australia at home.
