Mohammad Kaif's Clear Message To BCCI As Mustafizur Rahman's IPL Participation Triggers Huge Row

The participation of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has become the subject of significant controversy, with calls mounting for his exclusion due to the ongoing tensions between India and Bangladesh. The IPL auction saw Mustafizur being bought for a hefty Rs 9.20 crore by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but recent political unrest and the tragic killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh have sparked a debate about his involvement in the tournament.
Despite growing pressure, former India international Mohammad Kaif has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to handle the situation with patience and care. Speaking at the International League T20 (ILT20) in Dubai, Kaif addressed the sensitive nature of the issue and emphasized that the BCCI, which oversees all decisions related to Indian cricket, should be trusted to make the right call.
Kaif noted that while he didn’t have access to all the details due to his current stay in Dubai, the final decision rests entirely with the BCCI. He shared his thoughts with the Times of India:
"I don't have much knowledge of the issue. I've been here in Dubai for the past 2-3 weeks. What will be the decision? Everything comes under the BCCI; the decision is in their hands."
While the controversy around Mustafizur has sparked public debate, particularly with the heightened geopolitical tensions between India and Bangladesh, Kaif made it clear that decisions in such matters need to be measured and considered carefully.
"I will not sit here and share an opinion because it is a sensitive issue. You should play the waiting game because what is happening, what will be the movement, we may write (but in reality) there is no movement there," he added.
Kaif’s Message to the BCCI
Mohammad Kaif has urged for patience and cautioned against rushing to conclusions. While the debate continues to gain traction, he trusts the BCCI to navigate the situation with expertise and resolve.
"I think we should not jump the gun," Kaif concluded. "We should just wait and watch. Whatever the decision will be, BCCI are sitting there; they run big leagues, they know what to do and how to do it."
With Mustafizur Rahman being one of the most consistent bowlers in IPL history, his potential exclusion would undoubtedly have significant ramifications for Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Kaif’s stance reminds fans and officials alike that, despite the heightened emotions, the final call must rest with the governing body.
