Pakistan opened their T20I series against Australia with a 22-run victory at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, as reported by 8jjcricket. Batting first, Pakistan posted 168/8, with Saim Ayub scoring a brisk 40 and captain Salman Agha contributing 39 to stabilize the innings. Abrar Ahmed’s disciplined spin bowling helped restrict Australia, who started aggressively but were ultimately limited, falling short of the target.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif celebrated the win on social media, calling the performance “electrifying” and praising PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the cricket board staff. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra offered a more measured view, noting that Australia rested several key T20 World Cup players such as Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell, and Tim David, and emphasizing that a 22-run win in a 170-run game was modest.
The first T20I featured three Australian debutants, while established stars like Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Josh Inglis were absent. Despite this, Pakistan gained confidence from the performance, which highlighted Saim Ayub’s all-round contribution, Salman Agha’s leadership, and Abrar Ahmed’s effective spin.
The series continues with two more T20Is, serving as preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan aims to test its squad depth and strategies, while also coordinating with the PCB and government for World Cup readiness.
