Pakistan Falls in Line After ICC Warning, Names Squad for T20 World Cup 2026
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, ending days of speculation surrounding a potential boycott of the tournament. The move came just hours after the International Cricket Council (ICC) reportedly warned the PCB of severe sanctions should Pakistan withdraw in solidarity with Bangladesh, which pulled out earlier this week.

Putting an end to the uncertainty, the PCB confirmed that Pakistan will take part in the global event under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha. The announcement signals a clear shift in focus from off-field controversy to on-field preparation, with selectors opting for what they have described as a “balanced and aggressive” squad.

One of the biggest takeaways from the squad announcement is the return of senior stars Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi. After missing out on the recent T20I series, Babar is back to anchor the batting line-up, while Shaheen will spearhead the pace attack alongside Naseem Shah. Their inclusion is expected to bring experience and stability to a side aiming to make a deep run in the tournament.

However, the selection has not been without controversy. Express fast bowler Haris Rauf has been dropped, reportedly due to a dip in form during the Asia Cup 2025 and lingering fitness concerns. Veteran wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan has also been left out following underwhelming performances in the Big Bash League, a decision that has sparked debate among fans and analysts alike.

Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 against the Netherlands in Colombo, followed by matches against the USA, arch-rivals India, and Namibia. With political distractions now behind them, Pakistan will hope their on-field performances do the talking in 2026
