PBKS Stumble After Perfect Start in IPL 2026

IPL 2026 Punjab Kings Losing Streak: Three Defeats Shake PBKS After Unbeaten Run

From Unbeatable to Vulnerable in Three Matches

Punjab Kings were the envy of every franchise in IPL 2026 during the first half of the season. Shreyas Iyer's side went on an unbeaten run that had them looking like the early favourites for the title. Their batting was relentless, their bowling disciplined, and their ability to win close games demonstrated a mental edge the competition lacked. Then three matches happened. Three consecutive defeats later, PBKS have slipped to second on the points table with 13 points and are looking anxiously over their shoulder at three teams breathing down their necks.

What Went Wrong With the Batting

In each of the three defeats, the Punjab batting unit failed to replicate the totals they had posted so comfortably earlier in the season. The combination of Prabhsimran Singh at the top and Shreyas Iyer in the middle had been devastating in the first half. However, opponents have started to adapt. Extra pace in the powerplay, slower balls in the death, and better field placements have started to contain Punjab in a way that simply was not happening before. The average first-innings score in their losses is significantly lower than in their wins, and that difference is coming almost entirely from the powerplay phase.

Cooper Connolly Shines but Is Not Enough

One bright spot amid the defeats has been Cooper Connolly, the young Australian who has stepped up as one of the more impressive newcomers of the season. He scored a maiden IPL century earlier in the campaign and has been among the top individual performers for PBKS throughout the downturn. However, individual brilliance without consistent supporting performances is not a formula for winning T20 matches consistently. Punjab need their top six to fire as a unit, and that collective performance has dropped away sharply in the last few weeks.

Bowling Has Also Lost Its Sharpness

Defensively, PBKS have also conceded runs more freely in recent outings. Their economy rates in the powerplay and death overs, which were outstanding in the first part of the season, have crept upward. Teams are now more comfortable against their bowling setup and are attacking options that previously looked difficult to hit. Shreyas Iyer and his coaching staff will need to find tactical solutions quickly, because the teams chasing them down are in very good form.

What They Need to Do to Recover

Punjab still hold second place on the table and control their own destiny. Two wins from their remaining fixtures will almost certainly secure a top-two spot, which gives them two bites at the playoff cherry. But the form needs to return and it needs to return now. The next ten days will define whether PBKS are remembered as the team that dominated IPL 2026 from the front, or the team that let a big lead slip at the worst possible moment.
