Punjab Kings Script Record 265 Chase, Stay Unbeaten

265 in 18.5 Overs: The Chase That Defied Belief

April 25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi produced the greatest batting contest in IPL 2026. In a match that featured KL Rahul's 152 not out and a record 264 for 2 from Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings responded with 265 for 4 in just 18.5 overs to complete the highest successful chase in the history of the Indian Premier League. The win kept Punjab as the only unbeaten team in IPL 2026, with 13 points from seven matches.

Arya and Prabhsimran Set the Platform

Punjab Kings' captain Shreyas Iyer sent his team in to chase, and openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh immediately made clear that the target was within reach. The pair attacked from the very first delivery, dismantling the DC bowling lineup with a series of authoritative boundary hits. By the end of the powerplay, PBKS had scored 116 runs without losing a wicket, the second-highest powerplay score in IPL history. Arya finished with 43 before falling to spin, while Prabhsimran top-scored in the chase with 76.

The partnership of 126 in the powerplay effectively turned a record chase into a run rate exercise. DC's spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav fought back to remove both openers and Cooper Connolly in quick succession, leaving Punjab at 145 for 3 after 10 overs with the required rate climbing sharply.

Iyer Seals It Under Pressure

The match at that point looked like it could tilt in Delhi's favour. But Shreyas Iyer produced a captain's innings to settle matters. He came in under pressure and immediately attacked, hitting four, six, six off three consecutive balls to shift the momentum back decisively in Punjab's direction. He reached his half-century off just 26 balls before finishing unbeaten on 71 off 36 with three fours and seven sixes.

His innings was the defining moment of a chase that will be remembered as one of the great team batting performances in T20 history. At a win probability of just 14.83 percent at the start of the chase, Punjab's ability to accelerate on cue and maintain composure under genuine pressure marked them out as a team of rare quality.

The Benchmark Team of IPL 2026

Punjab Kings now sit at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with a Net Run Rate of plus 1.333, the best in the competition. Their batting depth, aggressive intent, and the calm leadership of Shreyas Iyer have made them the team every other side is measured against. With three league games remaining, a playoff berth is close to confirmed.
