Devine, Bates and Tahuhu Return as New Zealand Name Squad for South Africa T20Is
New Zealand have received a major boost ahead of their upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa with the return of experienced stars Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates and Lea Tahuhu to the national squad. The trio’s comeback adds valuable experience to the White Ferns lineup as they continue preparations for a busy international calendar and future global tournaments.

Veteran batter Suzie Bates returns to the squad after recovering from a quad injury that had kept her out of recent matches. Bates, one of New Zealand’s most experienced players, brings stability at the top of the batting order and remains a key figure in the team’s leadership group. Her return is expected to strengthen New Zealand’s batting unit significantly.

All-rounder Sophie Devine is also back in the squad, marking her first appearance for New Zealand since the Women’s Cricket World Cup in India last October. Devine’s presence adds both batting power and bowling depth to the side, while her leadership and experience are expected to benefit several younger players in the squad.

Fast bowler Lea Tahuhu, one of the most experienced seamers in the White Ferns setup, will join the squad for the final three matches of the series. Her pace and wicket-taking ability will provide New Zealand with an important option in their bowling attack as they face a strong South African lineup.

The five-match T20I series between New Zealand and South Africa is scheduled to begin on March 15 at Bay Oval in Tauranga. The matches will also be played as double-headers alongside the men’s fixtures between the two countries, offering fans a full day of international cricket action.

New Zealand will be led by all-rounder Amelia Kerr, who continues to captain the side as the team looks to blend experienced players with emerging talent. The squad also includes players such as Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Georgia Plimmer and Jess Kerr, reflecting a balanced combination of youth and experience.

Some players will feature only in certain matches during the series. Bree Illing and Polly Inglis have been selected for the first two T20Is, while Flora Devonshire and Lea Tahuhu will join the squad for the final three matches after recovering from injuries.

The return of Devine, Bates and Tahuhu is expected to significantly strengthen the White Ferns as they aim to build momentum and consistency ahead of upcoming international tournaments. Their experience, combined with the energy of younger players, provides New Zealand with a strong platform to challenge South Africa in what promises to be a competitive T20I series.
