Shakib Al Hasan Major Relief Amid Return Push
Shakib Al Hasan received a significant boost after Bangladesh’s new state minister for sports signaled flexibility in resolving the legal cases that have kept him away from national duties. The future of Shakib Al Hasan has remained uncertain since the political unrest that led to a regime change in August 2024.

Bangladesh’s newly appointed sports minister Aminul Haque stated that the government wants Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza back in the country and contributing to Bangladesh cricket. Both former captains have been out of Bangladesh since multiple cases, including serious charges, were filed against them.

Super Eights qualification conversations in global cricket continue elsewhere, but in Bangladesh the spotlight firmly remains on Shakib Al Hasan and his potential return. The minister emphasized that the cases would be handled swiftly to clear the path for Shakib Al Hasan to resume national representation.

The all-rounder last played for Bangladesh in a Test against India in late 2024 and has since focused on T20 franchise leagues. Despite his absence, Shakib Al Hasan remains one of the most influential figures in Bangladesh cricket history.

Aminul Haque also expressed a desire to repair sporting ties with India through diplomatic dialogue and ICC-compliant discussions. A positive resolution could pave the way for Shakib Al Hasan to return, marking a crucial phase for Bangladesh cricket’s rebuilding process.
