T20 WC 2026: Gavaskar Fires Back at Bullying Claims
As the T20 World Cup 2026 kicks off in Colombo, tensions have flared over accusations that India is 'bullying' Pakistan. The Pakistan government recently barred its team from playing against India in the February 15 group match. Former PCB chief Najam Sethi supported this move, claiming the BCCI has long intimidated Pakistan and other cricketing nations. Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar strongly refuted these claims, calling them unfair and unsubstantiated. Gavaskar highlighted India's history of outreach, citing bilateral series, IPL signings of Pakistani players, and participation of Pakistani commentators in the IPL. He emphasized that India has consistently made efforts to maintain cricketing relations, stating, "We are not bullying anybody, we are just minding our own business." Gavaskar also criticized the use of the term 'bullying' as an excuse, urging Pakistan to stand up if they truly feel oppressed, adding, "The best answer is always to stand up to the bully." With the T20 World Cup 2026 underway, Gavaskar’s remarks underline India’s stance on fairness and sportsmanship amid off-field controversies.
