India’s historic triumph in the T20 World Cup 2026 created massive celebrations across the cricketing world, but the T20 World Cup reward announced by the BCCI sparked fresh debate. After India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the BCCI confirmed a cash prize of Rs131 crore for the players, support staff and selectors. While the T20 World Cup reward was widely praised, former spinner Harbhajan Singh felt the amount could have been higher considering the scale of the achievement.

Reacting to the T20 World Cup reward, Harbhajan Singh admitted he expected a bigger financial recognition for the champions. According to the former India spinner, winning such a major global tournament deserved an even larger T20 World Cup reward given the dominance displayed throughout the competition.

Harbhajan congratulated the team for their exceptional performance and said the T20 World Cup reward reflects India’s growing power in international cricket. However, he reiterated that such historic success could have justified a higher financial bonus.

The T20 World Cup reward followed one of the most memorable campaigns in India’s cricket history. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India became the first team to successfully defend the title and also the first nation to win the tournament as hosts.

With the victory, India secured their third T20 World Cup crown. The dominant final performance against New Zealand ensured that the T20 World Cup reward also symbolised a milestone moment for Indian cricket.

Apart from the BCCI announcement, the T20 World Cup reward also included prize money from the International Cricket Council. India received USD 2.34 million (around Rs21.5 crore) as the tournament winners, adding further financial value to the T20 World Cup reward.

New Zealand, who finished as runners-up, received USD 1.17 million. Despite discussions around the size of the T20 World Cup reward, the tournament victory itself remains a landmark achievement for Indian cricket and its players.
